Jaunmoku Castle, Latvia
2025

The legend of Jaunmoku Castle is based on a true event that took place at the beginning of the 20th century, and the legend tells of a young girl Doroteja, who everyone called simply Dorīte.

After the restoration of Latvia's independence, the descendants of the von Ungern Sternberg family, the former owners of the castle, visited Jaunmoku Castle. After this visit, the staff received a letter from them describing a tragic incident that took place in the castle at the beginning of the last century.

During the First World War, the German army was stationed in the castle. At that time, a young girl, Dorīte, worked as a nanny in the castle. Dorīte fell in love with an officer, for the army did not stay in one place for long. The officer left, but the girl remained carrying his baby. Dorīte, unable to survive the separation and not wanting to experience shame of an unwed mother, sought solace in the large pond of the castle.

After this tragic event, the castle's residents sometimes saw the figure of a girl dressed in white in the attic. Dorīte's spirit had not brought peace.
